Background and Training
After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Cultural Anthropology from University of Colorado Boulder, Layne earned a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Layne is a board-certified Diplomate of Acupuncture and licensed by the state of Colorado.
I’m fortunate to have worked alongside highly effective practitioners early in my career as an acupuncturist. In addition to my special interest in skin, digestive and menstrual or reproductive health, I’ve pursued additional training in the treatment of cosmetic facial acupuncture, trigger point injections, and orthopedics.
I’ve completed advanced study with Michelle Gellis, a world renowned Chinese medicine dermatologist, and am uniquely trained to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, urticaria, lichen planus, and others.
Layne’s Certifications:
Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist, L.Ac

wHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture is one of the many modalities we practice at Onyx. Acupuncture consists of the insertion of needles into the body at specific points shown to be effective in the treatments of specific health problems. These points have been mapped by the Chinese over a period of two thousand years and there are several hundred known acupuncture points. We practice acupuncture by using needles that are extremely small, about 1/100th the size of a needle that might be used by a doctor for a blood draw. Common sensations are a small pinch or ache, or tingling that may be felt where the needle is placed or elsewhere in the body.
HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?
Acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories of the flow of qi (an energetic substance that nourishes and supports the body) through distinct pathways that cover the body and fascia. Acupuncture points adjust the flow of qi, restore blockages, and create a harmonious balance. These pathways are located in the space between the skin, muscles and nerves and can be accessed through the insertion of needles.
IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?
Acupuncture is extremely safe when practiced by licensed trained professionals like us! We use individual sterile, disposable needle packages. We take all necessary medical precautions and review your current and past medical history to determine what treatments are most appropriate for you.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Every patient is different and treatment plans will always be customized for you individually. Keep in mind that deep-rooted, chronic ailments tend to require more frequent treatments over a longer amount of time in order to see significant improvement. A typical course of treatment requires 8-10 treatments. We may suggest lifestyle and dietary recommendations, exercises, stretches, Chinese herbal medicine, lab testing and supplementation, all of which may help to increase the efficacy of your acupuncture treatments.
We are always available via phone or email for a free consultation and to answer any questions you may have!
