Vitamin B12 Injections
At Onyx Acupuncture & Integrative Health in Northwest Denver, we offer high-quality preservative-free B12 shots!
B12 injections can help to improve mental clarity, fat metabolism, immune function, as well as energy, endurance, and stamina. Vitamin B12 is also an essential nutrient that helps the body create DNA, nourishes the brain and nervous system, and assists with the formation of healthy red blood cells. It can relieve restless legs, nerve pain, migraines, and other neurological symptoms.
What are symptoms of B12 Deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency is something that can happen to anyone, but it is especially prevalent in people aged 50 and older. As the body ages, it naturally begins to lose the ability to absorb B12, resulting in deficiencies of the B vitamin. Those who maintain a vegan diet are also at high risk of developing a vitamin B12 deficiency since meats and other animal by-products are some of the best sources of B12. Additionally, patients with thyroid autoimmune disorders, compromised digestive systems, and who carry the MTHFR genetic mutation would all benefit from B12 injections regularly.
Symptoms of B12 Deficiency include:
Weakness or fatigue
Difficulty maintaining balance
Cognitive difficulties, like memory loss
Oral pain, especially a red or swollen tongue
Tingling or numbness, especially in fingertips
Distorted or blurred vision
Dizziness or shortness of breath
What to expect:
Vitamin injections are quick and safe. They’re scheduled at regular intervals in our office and are professional administered by Layne and Katie. They have specific injection training, in addition to their acupuncture license.
We administer B12 shots into an acupuncture point on the lower leg or upper arm. The location depends on what is most accessible and what we believe will be most comfortable for you. We use preservative-free methylcobalamin, which is the most bio-available form using a tiny needle, the size of an insulin needle.
Single B12 injections are $25 and we offer packages of 5 for $100
For those with pernicious anemia, a cycle of 8 to 10 injections within a two month period to build up Vitamin B12 levels. After that, a once per month dose is needed to maintain proper B12 levels. If your B12 deficiency is caused by long-term vegetarianism/veganism, monthly injections are recommended.
How many B12 shots do I need?
Are there side effects?
For the most part, B12 injections are very safe and have few side effects. There is no harm in taking large amounts of B12 as the body only uses what it needs and naturally expels any excess. After receiving a B12 injection, there may be some pain or redness at the injection site, and there is the possibility of mild diarrhea, itchiness and the feeling of swollen skin all over your body. However, there is only cause for concern if these symptoms persist. Allergic reactions to B12 shots are very rare, but symptoms that require medical attention include a rash, itchiness or swelling in the face or mouth and dizziness.
